Michigan State University/Sparrow Health System Neurology Residency Program

2022-23 MSU/Sparrow Neurology Residents.

Welcome to the Neurology Residency home page for Michigan State University and Sparrow Health Systems. Our residency prides itself on having brought together an enthusiastic group of physician scientists and clinical educators to mentor young neurologists seeking their training at Michigan State University. Our residency is a broadly based training program, combining the best of an outstanding Capital City community sized hospital with all the academic and social advantages found within a Big-Ten University environment.

This unique combination provides residents with exposure to challenging clinical cases, research, private practice, and academic neurology within the framework of a Big-Ten town and social scene. We have outstanding neurobiology clinical and neuro-epidemiology research, which will be explored with you by extraordinary clinical educators.

Residents will be encouraged to develop either a clinical focus or an academic/research focus through the initial stages of their residency experience. Accelerated clinical opportunity and independence will also be highlighted during the middle portions of the residency. The University and private neurology faculty during the residency's last year will help direct and polish individuals for fellowship and successful professional lives.

2022 MSU/Sparrow Neurology Residents and Program Directors.

Major influences of the Department include: geriatric neurology, movement disorder, stroke, neuro-ophthalmology, a National MS Society clinic and a Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic along with other, standard general and subspecialty neurology clinics important for a broad based foundation in neurology. With the residency being at one of the country's great universities, a tradition of working hard but playing hard is also encouraged both on campus and off.

The Michigan State University Department of Neurology faculty have won numerous teaching awards from the MSU medical schools and is dedicated to producing the most well rounded neurologists possible. We seek candidates with sustained and focused interest in neurology who have shown excellent performance in the didactic and clinical aspects of their medical school training and who also understand the value of learning and having fun as a team.

RESIDENT RETREAT

The first neurology resident retreat was held in 2012 and was an all day event that allowed residents a day of camaraderie, team building and fun with their fellow residents! Since that time, our retreats have become an annual event in the fall and spring of each year. It is always welcomed by the residents as they are excused from their normal resident duties to participate. Below are pictures from our most recent resident retreat held in November 2022.
