Nationally Certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission
Monday, February 11, 2013
I am delighted to announce that The Sparrow Stroke Center, in collaboration with Michigan State University, has achieved recognition as the first facility in Michigan and one of only about 20 nationally to be certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission.
This is a huge achievement and is a testimony to our Caregivers’ commitment to excellence and quality of care.
Nearly every family in America has been impacted by stroke in some way; stroke is the fourth-leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause for disability among adults. We’re proud to say that Sparrow is not only the best hospital in the region for stroke care, but also one of America’s best.
The foundation for this designation was laid by the collaborative efforts between stroke specialists at Sparrow, MSU’s Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology, MSU HealthTeam and Lansing Neurosurgery to treat complex stroke Patients.
In addition to these specialists, the actual certification is heavily dependent upon a multidisciplinary approach to stroke including EMS, the Emergency Department Staff and Physicians, Critical Care Medicine, Neurointensive Care and Neuroscience Nursing, Diagnostic Radiology, Cardiology, Vascular Surgery, Heart and Vascular Center Staff and Physicians, Neurointervention, Pharmacy, Rehabilitation Medicine, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Speech and Swallow Services, Case Management and Discharge Planning Services, Quality Improvement and Palliative Care.
On behalf of the program, I would like to thank and congratulate every one of you. You should all be proud of what you have achieved.
Yours Sincerely,
Syed I Hussain, MD
Medical Director
