Residents will be encouraged to develop either a clinical focus or an academic/research focus through the initial stages of their residency experience. Accelerated clinical opportunity and independence will also be highlighted during the middle portions of the residency. The University and private neurology faculty during the residency's last year will help direct and polish individuals for fellowship and successful professional lives.
Major influences of the Department include: geriatric neurology, movement disorder, stroke, neuro-ophthalmology, a National MS Society clinic and a Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic along with other, standard general and subspecialty neurology clinics important for a broad based foundation in neurology. With the residency being at one of the country's great universities, a tradition of working hard but playing hard is also encouraged both on campus and off.
The Michigan State University Department of Neurology faculty have won numerous teaching awards from the MSU medical schools and is dedicated to producing the most well rounded neurologists possible. We seek candidates with sustained and focused interest in neurology who have shown excellent performance in the didactic and clinical aspects of their medical school training and who also understand the value of learning and having fun as a team.
