Epilepsy
A seizure is a brief event of abnormal sudden discharge of brain activity
that leads to (depending on the involved area in the brain) to uncontrollable
movements, confusion, and/or loss of consciousness. Epilepsy is an illness
characterized by repetitive seizures.
In order for your physician to be able to effectively diagnose and treat epilepsy,
you first need to provide a detailed description of your events, and then your
physician will perform a targeted physical exam and order complimentary tests
such as electroencephalogram (EEG), Brain Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),
and some blood tests. The goal of doing all of that is to classify and define
the exact type of epilepsy so correct treatment plan can be initiated. Your
physician will formulate and explain the treatment plan and give you a seizure
safety tip lists and arrange for appropriate follow up and subsequent tests.
