Susan Wehner is a Nurse Practitioner who joined MSU in 2000. She is certified as a family nurse practitioner. Her nursing experience includes neurosurgery, neurology, and rehabilitation where she cared for a wide variety of patients with many different neurological conditions. Her practice includes a Stroke Prevention Clinic with a focus on self management and decision making with patients who have had prior TIA or stroke. She is also a member of the Stroke/Neuro Critical Care Team at MSU and Sparrow Health System.

Research interests include stroke outcomes, gender differences, health promotion and modification of risk factors. Susan collaborates on research with the department of Epidemiology at MSU. She was the project director for a CDC sponsored stroke surveillance project. This project was expanded to include a Stroke Outcomes Study, and a Quality Improvement study. She coordinates acute stroke trials at area hospitals.

Susan teaches in the College of Nursing at MSU and Lansing Community College. She is a frequent invited speaker at local, state, and national conferences. She is on the board of the Southeast Michigan American Association of Neurological Nurses. She also conducts Disease Specific Certification Reviews for the JCAHO.
