Welcome to Michigan State University's Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology Web Page! We are delighted to share what our Department has to offer.

Historically, the Department was formally initiated on July 1, 2000 by the Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees. It is the first jointly administered Clinical Department (Colleges of Osteopathic and Human Medicine) created at MSU since 1975. It is an outgrowth of the neuro-ophthalmology unit started on this campus in 1984 by action of Mike Magen, Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at that time. Through the next 16 years and invaluable insight from numerous deans and faculty throughout campus and the office of the provost, a critical mass of faculty and staff were organized. Through the first five years of this Department's existence we have been very fortunate to expand faculty, staff, facilities and laboratories to allow partnerships with numerous departments campus and state wide, hospital systems within the city of Lansing such as Sparrow Health Systems and Ingham Regional Medical Center and other units nationwide and abroad.

Although the Department is now focused on Neurology it also assists with numerous ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology projects and programs on campus and statewide. Enclosed in the website are insights into our neurology and neuro-ophthalmology clinics, our clinical and research faculty, descriptions of our research portfolio and review of our medical school, residency, fellowship and outreach education programs.

This Department prides itself on its vibrant faculty and dedicated staff. These people have been brought together from many different locations throughout the country to help develop this new Neurology and Ophthalmology Department. They are, without question, this unit's main asset. Our faculty and staff's vision is to develop this unit's programs for the benefit of the people of the State of Michigan and well beyond. Please feel free to contact me directly if there is anything specific I can do to be of assistance to you that is not outlined within our web page.
