Dr. Ackerman treats most neurological concerns. He has special interest
in Parkinson's disease, other movement disorders, epilepsy, and multiple
sclerosis (MS).
Dr. Ackerman has been in practice since 1984. He was honored with a listing
in the annual publication, Best Doctors in America, for 1999-2000, 2001-2002,
and 2003-2004. He was also in the Best Doctors in America Midwest Edition,
1996-1997.
Dr. Ackerman is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
(ABPN). He is licensed to practice medicine in Michigan.
After completing his B.S. with Magna Cum Laude honors from Tufts University,
Dr. Ackerman earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical
School, Chicago, IL in 1980. In medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha
Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He then pursued four more years of training
as an intern and a neurology resident from 1980-1984. In his final residency
year, he was Chief Resident in Neurology at McGaw Medical Center, Northwestern
University School of Medicine, Chicago, IL.
Since completion of his training in 1984, Dr. Ackerman has been a practicing
physician and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Internal
Medicine (Neurology) at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine
in East Lansing, Michigan and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department
of Physical Medicine at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine,
also in East Lansing.
Since 1996, Dr. Ackerman has been the Director of the Parkinson's Disease
Clinic at Michigan State University Clinical Center.
Dr. Ackerman is a member of several medical societies, including the
Michigan State Medical Society, the Michigan Neurologic Society, and is a Fellow
of the American Academy of Neurology.
Dr. Ackerman is on the staff at Sparrow Health Systems and Ingham Regional
