He is co-director of the Neuro-Visual Unit, and director of the MSU Ocular Motility Lab, Neuro-Vestibular Clinic and the MSU National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) Clinic.
Research Interests
- Double vision, optic neuropathy
and multiple sclerosis; optic neuropathy research has included
the Ischemic Optic Neuropathy Decompression Trial (AION,
or stroke of the optic nerve study), Longitudinal Optic Neuritis
Study (optic neuritis – inflammation of the optic nerve study), and CHAMPS (Controlled High Risk MS Prevention Study – demonstrated
the value of early MS treatment with interferon beta-1a).

Prevention Study (CHAMPS): A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled
study of Avonex (Interferon Beta 1a) in the treatment of subjects
at high risk for development of multiple sclerosis following
the first onset of an isolated demyelinating event. Biogen
