Why did you choose to become part of Michigan State University Neurology?
I decided to pursue my Neurology training in the M.S.U. program primarily because of the opportunity it offers. It is dually accredited, which allows for professional flexibility and embraces a solid working relationship between D.O. and M.D. physicians. We have very well trained faculty from world class institutions such as Mayo and Harvard, but more importantly they have diversity of expertise and enjoy teaching. Also, Michigan State Neurology incorporates research into the program and with a strongly research oriented faculty; there is significant support in this area. While in the hospital there is nearly always a neuro-radiologist available to assist in reading films. As neurology residents we routinely read our own films independently with our attending to verify the findings. Sparrow also offers neurovascular intervention with a dedicated stroke team, stroke unit and neurointensive care unit. The curriculum of the residency is continually evolving to improve didactics and exposure to neuropathology.
If you were not a doctor, what would you have chosen as a career?
I think in med school we all ask ourselves “What else could I have done with my career?” Sometimes I wish I was a painter. I love loosing myself in a canvas for several hours or even days. It is the freedom or creating a new image from nothing but an idea.
Extracurricular interests and activities:
Spending time with my husband, family and friends. Painting is a passion that I seldom get to enjoy at the moment, but one day I’ll return to it.
